7 Simple Steps for Identifying Your Skin Type

Did you know that the secret to great skin is to understand your skin type? Only if you know your skin type, will you be able to take care of your skin the right way. In fact, before you pick out your skincare products, it is important that you consider your skin type.

Your basic skin type is decided by your genetics; however, it can alter throughout your life based on lifestyle choices, environment, aging, hormones and pregnancy. In fact, skin type can also change from season to season. For example, you might find your skin feeling dry and tight during the winter months, and greasy or oily during the summer months and monsoons. So, it is a good idea to keep on checking your skin type every now and then and adjusting the skincare products to meet your skin’s specific needs.

Steps to Decide Your Skin Type

As we know it, there are four skin types- normal, dry, oily and combination. Try this 7-step skin assessment trick to figure out your type:

Step 1: Wash your face at night and do not apply any skincare products after that. Avoid keeping the AC on at night during bedtime so that you skin gets to function normally.

Step 2: In the morning before washing your face, feel it in various places – your forehead, your T Zone, C-Zone and cheeks. Also keep a mirror handy to check out your pores.

Step 3: If your T-zone, which is from the centre of your forehead down your nose, sides of nose and chin; and the C-Zone, which is nearer to the ears and your jawline and temple near the hairline, feel oily or greasy then you have oily skin.

Step 4: Look closely in the mirror, if your pores around your nose and cheeks look open and big, then you have oily skin. Press a tissue in the area, and if you get greasy patches, then you are most likely to suffer from acne and clogged pores.

Step 5: If your T-zone feels greasy, but your forehead and cheeks feel dry, then you have combination skin type.

Step 6: If in the morning your skin feels tight and crepey to the touch then you have very dry skin. Look into the mirror, if your pores seem almost non-existent, and skin look very fine textured, then your skin is dry and dehydrated.

Step 7: You are one lucky one if your skin feels neither tight nor greasy. It’s a sign that you have normal skin. You have barely visible pores and skin feels supple to the touch. The skin looks, radiant and fresh almost all the time.

So, do assess your skin and pick up the right set of products and see your skin be in its best state.
